Product Eigenvalue Problems
نویسنده
چکیده
Many eigenvalue problems are most naturally viewed as product eigenvalue problems. The eigenvalues of a matrix A are wanted, but A is not given explicitly. Instead it is presented as a product of several factors: A = AkAk−1 · · ·A1. Usually more accurate results are obtained by working with the factors rather than forming A explicitly. For example, if we want eigenvalues/vectors of BTB, it is better to work directly with B and not compute the product. The intent of this paper is to demonstrate that the product eigenvalue problem is a powerful unifying concept. Diverse examples of eigenvalue problems are discussed and formulated as product eigenvalue problems. For all but a couple of these examples it is shown that the standard algorithms for solving them are instances of a generic GR algorithm applied to a related cyclic matrix.

Evolution of the first eigenvalue of buckling problem on Riemannian manifold under Ricci flow
Among the eigenvalue problems of the Laplacian, the biharmonic operator eigenvalue problems are interesting projects because these problems root in physics and geometric analysis. The buckling problem is one of the most important problems in physics, and many studies have been done by the researchers about the solution and the estimate of its eigenvalue. In this paper, first, we obtain the evol...
متن کاملSome Unusual Matrix Eigenvalue Problems
We survey some unusual eigenvalue problems arising in different applications. We show that all these problems can be cast as problems of estimating quadratic forms. Numerical algorithms based on the well-known Gauss-type quadrature rules and Lanczos process are reviewed for computing these quadratic forms. These algorithms reference the matrix in question only through a matrix-vector product op...
متن کاملA New Inexact Inverse Subspace Iteration for Generalized Eigenvalue Problems
In this paper, we represent an inexact inverse subspace iteration method for computing a few eigenpairs of the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = Bx [Q. Ye and P. Zhang, Inexact inverse subspace iteration for generalized eigenvalue problems, Linear Algebra and its Application, 434 (2011) 1697-1715 ]. In particular, the linear convergence property of the inverse subspace iteration is preserved.
متن کاملInfinite product representation of solution of indefinite SturmLiouville problem
In this paper, we investigate infinite product representation of the solution of a Sturm- Liouville equation with an indefinite weight function which has two zeros and/or singularities in a finite interval. First, by using of the asymptotic estimates provided in [W. Eberhard, G. Freiling, K. Wilcken-Stoeber, Indefinite eigenvalue problems with several singular points and turning points, Math. N...
متن کاملOn the condition numbers of a multiple eigenvalue of a generalized eigenvalue problem
For standard eigenvalue problems, closed-form expressions for the condition numbers of a multiple eigenvalue are known. In particular, they are uniformly 1 in the Hermitian case and generally take different values in the non-Hermitian case. We consider the generalized eigenvalue problem and identify the condition numbers. Our main result is that a multiple eigenvalue generally has multiple cond...
